This etching has inscribed on the plate: “Een boom is geen boom maar de droom van de wortel”(“A tree is not a tree but the dream of the root”). I read that sentence in an interview with the Icelandic artist Sugurdur Gudmundsson and not long after that I found this beech tree in the dunes near Vogelenzang, which is a village near the place where I grew up.
