This etching was made to go with a poem “Roas” (“Rose”) by the well-known Friesian poet Tsjebbe Hettinga.
I made it for a collector of my work as a gift to his wife who had her 60th birthday in July 2011.
The church is Hogebeintum in Friesland, which is on the highes terp in Friesland. A ‘terp’ is an artificial mound that people could flee to when the sea flooded the low-lying land before dykes were built around Friesland.
